Dview: Skyrim (Xbox 360)

The Bottom Line:
Skyrim is the most recent entry into the Elder Scrolls series (the third on consoles).  It is basically a western style sandbox RPG where you level up by using skills.  The game has been somewhat streamlined from the previous Elder Scrolls game (Oblivion).  Some of it is decent changes like getting rid of the armorer skill (and armor wearing out over time).  Some of it is a little simplified.  This game still has its share of hiccups, but it is more stable than its predecessors.

Skyrim is more about exploring the world and doing varoius quests than a main cohesive story line (it does have a main story, but it isn't that great).

As far as western RPGs go, this is among my top choices on the Xbox 360 (after the Mass Effect games).  Eventually, there will be add-ons (and probably a "Game of the Year Edition")

Grade: B-

What to Expect:
* An "open world" to explore and conquer - with many caves, strongholds, shrines, etc
* If you do "everything" it can take hundreds of hours
* 9 major cities to find (houses to buy, loot, etc)
* Lots of combat (yes, it is repetitive - but combat always is)
* 18 skills to level up by using (these will in turn be how your character levels)
* Perks added on level gains to help you better use/refine your skills (i feel some of them should be automatic as you level up)
* Faction quests to do for items, skills and money
* Dragons to hunt (after a while it feels like overkill)
* Shouts to find scattered throughout the world (shouts are basically magical abilities, Dragonrend being one of the most useful against dragons
* A lot of voice/text content (i wish you could skip some of the longer sections and most of the shorter ones too)

How i Played (Stats and Stuff):
* Difficulty: Adept (Default)
* Play Time: 96 hours 26 minutes
* Achievements: 50/50 (1,000)
* Locations Found: 232
* Dungeons Cleared: 68
* Quests Completed: 104
* Miscellaneous Objectives Completed: 152
* Dragon Souls Absorbed: 30
* Words of Power Found: 40
* Shouts Mastered: 5
- used internet resources occasionally, Daedric Questline and 2 of the shouts.
* Verdict: If you can wait until the price drops by $10-15 (to help cover the cost of the first DLC). So, $45-$50.

Achievements:
The achievement list isn't so much difficult as it is time consuming.  You have achievements for factions, quests, levels, Daedric Items (can chose wrong on a few of them), finding/clearing locations, crafting, skill books, etc.  The internet is your friend on several of these.
