Guacamelee Xbox One - i Hate This Game

Well, Games with Gold is here for the month of July.  This month saw a lone title added: Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition

So what do I think about Guacamelee after playing it for a little while.  It is too fucking hard (not so much the combat, but the stupid jump puzzles - ok some of the combat is annoying).  I hate jump puzzles and this game is almost completely full of them.  What makes them worse are some of the mechanics.  This game drastically overuses the plane shift mechanic.

The place where i was stuck has you climbing up an area.  But, it is not as simple as jumping from one thing to another - you have to jump on one wall, jump off that wall hit a button to make another wall appear (making the previous wall disappear), then you have to jump off that wall and hit the button again - rinse and repeat.  This absolutely sucks.  Too many stupid button presses (some in opposite directions).  There was another stupid area with rotating spikes (it's bad enough when things are stationary, but these flip).  Then, I got stuck a little later on with stupid vines/spikes.

I wouldn't recommend playing this game (though I got it for free) as it is far more frustration than fun.  Then again overcoming "obstacles" isn't fun for me it is frustrating (and too many games now days throw that kind of crap in).  i don't have the patience i used to (and i never had that much).

Ok, I finally beat this game.  The main boss was a pain in the something or other.  Yes, I do hate this game.  There are sections of difficult platforming, annoying boss fights (mainly the Jaguar guy and the main boss) and a plethora of annoying jump puzzles.  Annoying enemies who are shielded until you hit them with a certain attack exist too (spoiler the end boss is one of them).  This will probably be the first game I delete from the console when the memory gets full.  .

If you want to see this game at its worst, try some of the levels in the bonus area off of the desert (El Infierno - or something like that), essentially hell.

On a scale of obscenities loudly uttered/shouted during this playthrough (15 hours), there had to be at least 1,000.  I probably traumatized my dog friend. This game is frustrating to a mere mortal like me (who hates trial and error and frustration).  Strider isn't shaping up much better.
