i played Fable the Journey yesterday for 3-4 hours and boy are my arms fatigued by the build-up of lactic acid.
Fable the Journey is a spin-off game for the Kinect. This is not part of the main series and really does not play like it. In the Journey, you take on the role of Gabriel (a dweller) who gets thrust into an adventure - somewhat due to his proclivity to fall asleep in the rain. He meets a familiar face in Theresa (well if you have played any of the previous Fable games - you will learn a little of her back story here). Unluckily for Gabriel, it turns out that an entity called the Devourer is after Theresa.
Yes, you will find some of the enemies typically found in Fable games - like hobbes, balverines and hollow men (i hear). There are still chests to open and collectibles to find (i wonder if they are all in chests). Supposedly, there are five (or so) spell types in the game, but i only have access to two so far.
The game will find you either controlling your horse (Seren) or participating in a type of on-rails light gun thing with your hands. There are some gestures that pop up (like opening a chest, healing the horse, pulling arrows out of the horse, etc). Like many Kinect games, this will sometimes have issues. My primary issue is aiming magic spells.
The horse controls a little bit better than magic, but sometimes seems to be a little too sensitive (touchy).
You cast magic by essentially doing a one arm air push ups (sometimes 2 arm). i don't mind the on-rails nature of that part of the game, it is just that sometimes aiming can be a little off (or at least it says you are off). i wish that the magic spells would occupy more space, making aiming a little easier. Or in other words, i wish the spell-casting sections would have bigger sweet spots
As for the game itself.... So far i see this game to be pretty average. i'm kind of curious where the story is going. It is not really bad, but not really good either. The pacing seems a little better than some other games set in the Fable universe. Yes, you can die in this game (i have done it at least 4 times). Balverines are still a pain in the neck (at least for me).
Now for the spoiler part... what do you do when you can't find a hero? Well, like the Grinch you make one instead. At this point, it seems to me that Gabriel will become a hero thanks to some conveniently left behind gauntlets (and other things).
